My ex- student Aldo (see Where Is the Visa for My Study? Do It Quickly Please!) was sitting in the class in Duisburg campus as he got a message from his friends in Indonesia asking picture of snow. Aldo replied that he was still in the class and would take the picture later.

This is a very different learning atmosphere which is influenced by the modern technology and the mentality of the person.

As I was a student at the University of Indonesia 1989 - 1993, I and my friends, the other students, were just sitting in the class during the lesson. We just learnt and studied. We didn't and couldn't communicate with outsiders. At that time there were no handphones.

Now, there are so many handphones. Not only that, handphones have multiple functions; not only for speaking, but also for writing, photographing and so many other functions. You can send and receive messages to and from someone. You can photograph something or someone.

But, if you have a mentality in which you think that study is an important thing, so you need to concentrate on the lesson in the class and you think that using handphone during the class will only bother your concentration, then you wouldn't use your handphone during the lesson. You only use your handphone if you just need it. You control your handphone, not your handphone controls you.:-)

Look at Aldo's photographic work. He sent it to his friends in Indonesia just in a few seconds. By handphone, of course, not by airmail which can take around 2 weeks from Germany to Indonesia. Aldo's friends in Indonesia can see the snow thanks to the picture. And for Aldo it supposed to be the first time in his life to see and touch the snow. :-) However the snow was still thin. There was no information where the location is. Maybe in Duisburg, because the campus is in Duisburg. Maybe in Muelheim, a neighbor city of Duisburg, because Aldo lives there.

But Aldo, be careful. Concentrate on your study. You said that you will only be 2 years in Germany. You just wanted to study there and then be back to Indonesia with your master's degree. (I have told him before that he will like to live in Germany, but he replied: "You will see, after 2 years study I will be back to Indonesia. I won't betray Indonesia." :-) )
