Meine ehemalige Schülerin, Ichel, erinnert sich an ihren Deutschlandaufenthalt. Diese Absolventin von der Swiss German Universität, Serpong, hat ein Praxissemester an der Fachhochschule Südwestfalen, Soest, gemacht. Soest liegt ungefähr 40 Minuten lange von Dortmund.

Sie und ihre Freunde sind in einem Februar in Deutschland gelandet. Es hat geregnet, als sie im Flughafen angekommen sind. Es war sehr kalt und auch windig. Ihre ersten Tage in Deutschland waren für Ichel sehr erstaunlich.

Das Wohnen in Deutschland

Am Anfang haben Ichel und eine Freundin ein Apartment (in einer Ferienwohnung) in Soest gemietet. Es hat €750 pro Monat gekostet. Es war möbliert und gab eine Küche. Sie bekamen auch Bettdecken. Der Preis war inklusive Müllgebühr, usw.. Einmal in der Woche wurde das Zimmer aufgeräumt. Aber Ichel & ihre Freundin mussten die Küche selbst aufräumen.

Danach hat Ichel in Holzminden, ungefähr 1,5 Stunden lange von Hannover, gewohnt. Das Haus, wo sie wohnte, bestand aus 3 Stockwerken. Im Erdgeschoss war der Hausbesitzer. Im 1. Stock war jemand anders. Ichel und ihre Freunde, deutsche Studenten, waren im 2. Stock. Da waren 4 Wohnungen und Ichel hatte ihre eigene Wohnung.

Ichel hat diese Wohnung schon aus Indonesien vorher gesucht. Sie fand Anzeigen im Internet. Man darf sie aber mieten, erst wenn man den Vermieter trifft. Sie hatte Glück, weil sie nicht brauchte, die Kaution vorher aus Indonesien zu stellen. Es gäbe schon Vermieter, die Kaution vorher verlangen. Deshalb muss man aus Indonesien dann überweisen.

Hore, Aku Sudah di Jerman

Mantan murid saya, Ichel, teringat akan masa dia tinggal di Jerman. Lulusan Swiss German University, Serpong, ini pernah magang di Fachhochschule Südwestfalen, Soest. Soest terletak kira-kira 40 menit lama perjalanan dari Dortmund.

Dia dan teman-temannya mendarat di Jerman pada suatu hari di bulan Februari. Hari sedang hujan saat mereka tiba di bandara. Cuaca terasa sangat dingin dan juga berangin. Hari-hari pertamanya di Jerman buat Ichel merupakan waktu yang sangat menakjubkan.

Hidup di Jerman

Awalnya Ichel dan seorang teman menyewa sebuah apartemen (di sebuah rumah liburan) di Soest. Tarif sewanya €750 per bulan. Apartemen itu sudah dilengkapi perabot dan memiliki sebuah dapur. Mereka juga mendapat selimut. Harga sewa sudah termasuk biaya sampah, dll. Sekali seminggu kamar dibersihkan. Tapi dapur harus dibersihkan sendiri oleh Ichel dan temannya.

Kemudian Ichel tinggal di Holzminden, kurang lebih 1,5 jam lama perjalanan dari Hannover. Rumah yang dia tinggali terdiri dari 3 lantai. Di lantai dasar adalah si pemilik rumah. Di lantai 1 orang lain. Ichel dan teman-temannya, mahasiswa Jerman, tinggal di lantai 2. Ada 4 unit di sana dan Ichel sewa 1 unit sendiri.

Ichel sebelumnya sudah mencari tempat tinggal / kos dari Indonesia. Ia mencari iklan di internet. Tapi rumah itu hanya boleh disewa jika calon penyewa sudah bertemu dengan pemberi sewa / pemilik rumah. Ichel beruntung karena dia tidak perlu mengirim uang jaminan sebelumnya dari Indonesia. Ada juga pemilik rumah yang meminta uang jaminan sebelumnya, sehingga calon penyewa harus mentransfer uang jaminan tsb. dari Indonesia.

Hurray, I am in Germany

My ex pupil, Ichel, remembers her stay in Germany. This graduate from Swiss German University, Serpong, has spent a practical semester at Fachhochschule Südwestfalen, Soest. Soest is located approximately 40 minutes long from Dortmund.

She and her friends landed in a February in Germany. It rained as they arrived in the airport. It was very cold and also windy. Her first days in Germany were very amazing for her.

Stay in Germany

At the beginning Ichel and a friend rented an apartment (in a Holiday apartment) in Soest. The monthly hire charge was €750. It was furnished and there was a kitchen. They also got blankets. The price was including refuse collection fee, etc.. Once in a week the bedroom was cleansed. But Ichel & her friend themselves must cleanse the kitchen.

Afterwards Ichel stayed in Holzminden, approximate 1,5 hour long from Hannover. The house, in which she stayed, consisted of 3 storeys. The owner was on the ground floor. On the 1^st floor that was someone else. Ichel and her friends, German students, were on the 2^nd floor. There were 4 flats and Ichel had her own flat.

Ichel has already sought the flat from Indonesia before. She found advertisement in internet. But one may rent it, only if one meets the landlord. She was lucky, because she didn’t need to pay the deposit from Indonesia before. She found there were some landlords who demand the deposit before.  Therefore one must transfer the money from Indonesia.

MH 370, Bitte Komm Zurueck!

Zu der traurigen Geschichte der am Samstag, 8. Maerz 2014 verlorenen MH 370 Maschine (Route Kuala Lumpur - Beijing) hoerten wir nachtraeglich, dass es illegale Passagiere gibt. Diese blinden Fluggaeste benutzen einen italienischen Pass und einen oesterreichischen Pass. Der italienische Pass gehoert Herrn Luigi Maraldi, der einiges Mal im Fernsehen erschien. Anschliessend wurde auch informiert, dass die illegalen Passagiere keine Asiaten sein sollten.

Diese Geschichte erinnert mich an meine Erfahrungen mit Beamten in auslaendischen Flughaefen.

1. Im Frankfurter Flughafen, 24. Mai 1996

Ich und andere Passagiere gingen gerade im Flughafen. Wir waren vom Flugzeug raus. Da stand ein Mann mit Uniform. Keine Ahnung, ob er Polizist oder Immigrationsbeamte war. Die anderen Passagiere, die wie Europaeer aussahen und vor mir gingen, konnten ruhig gingen. Ich war die einzige Asiatin. Als ich diesem Beamte vorbeiging, dann hielt er mich an. Er bat mich, dass ich ihm meinen Pass zeigen sollte. Als ich mit ihm Deutsch sprach, "Ich will nach Hamburg weiterfliegen." dann war er ein bisschen freundlich. Vielleicht hat er gar nicht gedacht, dass ich Deutsch sprechen kann. Von ihm habe ich das Wort "Hamburg" im Dialekt [hamburch] zum ersten Mal gehoert. Die Stadt "Hamburg" wird [hamburg] nach dem Hochdeutsch ausgesprochen. Der Beamte hat aber gesagt, "Aaah, Sie wollen nach [hamburch]". Hinterher als ich in Salzhausen blieb, hoerte ich dass Leute dort [hamburch] aussprechen. Vielleicht war der Beamte im Frankfurter Flughafen Hamburger und dieser Hamburger hat mich diskriminiert.

2. Im Flughafen Kuala Lumpur, 21. Mai 2004

MH 370, Kembalilah!

Sehubungan berita sedih tentang hilangnya pesawat MH 370 (rute Kuala Lumpur - Beijing) pada hari Sabtu, 8 Maret 2014, kita mendengar kemudian bahwa ada penumpang gelap. Para penyusup tersebut menggunakan sebuah paspor Italia dan sebuah paspor Austria. Paspor Italia milik Bapak Luigi Maraldi, yang beberapa kali muncul dalam siaran televisi. Selanjutnya diinformasikan pula bahwa para penyusup tersebut bukan orang Asia.

Kasus ini mengingatkan saya akan pengalaman saya dengan petugas di bandara luar negeri.

1. Di Bandara Frankfurt, 24 Mei 1996

Saya dan penumpang pesawat yang lain sedang berjalan dalam gedung bandara. Kami baru saja turun dari pesawat. Ada seorang laki-laki berseragam sedang berdiri di depan tidak jauh dari arah kami datang. Tidak jelas apakah laki-laki tersebut polisi atau petugas imigrasi. Penumpang pesawat lainnya yang kelihatan seperti orang Eropa dan berjalan di depan saya, dapat berjalan terus tanpa gangguan. Saya satu-satunya orang Asia saat itu. Ketika saya melewati petugas tersebut, tiba-tiba dia menghentikan saya dan meminta supaya saya menunjukkan paspor saya. Ketika saya berbicara dalam Bahasa Jerman, "Saya mau lanjut terbang ke Hamburg." petugas tersebut menjadi sedikit ramah. Mungkin dia sama sekali tidak menyangka bahwa saya dapat berbahasa Jerman. Dari dia saya mendengar untuk pertama kalinya kata "Hamburg" diucapkan dalam dialek [hambuih]. Kota "Hamburg" diucapkan [hamburg] sesuai pengucapan Bahasa Jerman standar Hochdeutsch. Tetapi petugas itu berkata, "Aaah, Sie wollen nach [hambuih]". Belakangan ketika saya sudah tinggal di Salzhausen, saya mendengar warga di sana mengucapkan [hambuih]. Mungkin petugas di Bandara Frankfurt itu orang Hamburg dan orang Hamburg itu sudah mendiskriminasi saya.

2. Di Bandara Kuala Lumpur, 21 Mei 2004

MH 370, Please Come Back!

Regarding the sad story of the missing MH 370 aeroplane (route Kuala Lumpur - Beijing) on Saturday, 8th March 2014 we heard later on that there were illegal passengers. Those illegal passengers used an Italian passport and an Austrian one. The Italian passport belongs to Mr Luigi Maraldi, who appeared on TV for several times. Additionally there is also info that those illegal passengers are not Asian.

This case reminds me of my experience with officers in airports abroad.

1. In the airport Frankfurt, 24th May 1996

I and other passengers were currently walking in the airport. We were just out from the aeroplane. There was a man with uniform. No idea, whether he was a policeman or an immigration officer. The other passengers, who seemed like European and were walking in front of me, could walk further. I was the only Asian girl. As I passed this officer, he stopped me and asked me to show him my passport. Then I spoke to him in German, "I wanna fly further to Hamburg." He was then a little bit friendly. Maybe he never thought that I can speak German. I just heard from him for the first time the word "Hamburg" in dialect [hambuich]. The city "Hamburg" is pronounced [hamburg] according to the German standard Hochdeutsch. But that officer said, "Aaah, Sie wollen nach [hambuich]". Later on as I stayed in Salzhausen, I heard the people there saying [hambuich]. Maybe the officer in the airport Frankfurt comes from Hamburg and that Hamburg guy has discriminated me.

2. In the airport Kuala Lumpur, 21st May 2004

Wo Ist das Visum zu Meinem Studium? Machen Sie Es Bitte Schnell!

Ein Freund, Yan (nicht der richtige Name), der jetzt Maschinenbau an der Universitaet Duisburg Essen studiert, erzaehlte mir von seiner Erfahrung mit der Deutschen Botschaft Jakarta wegen der Visumsbeantragung.

Yan wurde informiert, dass Visumsbeantragung 6 bis 8 Wochen dauert. Das Studium fuers Wintersemester in Duisburg fing Mitte Oktober 2012 an. Weil die Deutsche Botschaft nicht sagen konnte, wann das Visum genau fertig sein wuerde, mochte Yan das Flugticket nicht fuer Mitte Oktober kaufen. Dann buchte er den Flug fuer Anfang November.

Aber Yan mochte auch nicht, dass er viel zu spaet ist, um mit dem Studium anzufangen. Deshalb mochte Yan nicht nur warten, bis ihm die Deutsche Botschaft mitteilen wuerde. Wenn seine Visumsbeantragung bis 8 Wochen dauern wuerde, wuerde er zeitlich und finanziell wegen des Flugtickets benachteiligt.

Nachdem er auf die Nachteile rechnete, "draengte" er die Deutsche Botschaft. Wahrscheinlich ist Yan mehr als 1x zur Deutschen Botschaft gekommen, um nach dem Visum zu seinem Studium zu fragen. Wie er sich drueber gefreut hat, genau in 6 Wochen kriegte er das Visum zu seinem Studium.

Aber mein Schueler Aldo. der auch an der Universitaet Duisburg Essen studieren wollte (siehe Er Luegt!), kriegte das Visum immer noch nicht. Er gab der Deutschen Botschaft seine Unterlage am 11. September aus. Bis Yan am 6. November nach Deutschland flog, kriegte er das Visum noch nicht. Aldo ist sogar schon am 6. September zur Deutschen Botschaft gefahren. Sie schickte ihm wieder nach Hause nur weil es eine Kopie gefehlt hat.

Mana Visa Studiku? Cepat, dong!

Seorang teman, Yan (bukan nama sebenarnya), yang sekarang sedang studi teknik mesin di Fakultas Teknik Universitas Duisburg Essen menceritakan pengalamannya dalam mengurus visa studinya di Kedubes Jerman di Jakarta.

Menurut informasi yang diterima oleh Yan proses pengurusan visa studi memakan waktu 6 sampai 8 minggu. Sementara kuliah semester musim dingin di Duisburg dimulai pada pertengahan Oktober 2012. Karena tidak adanya kepastian kapan visa selesai Yan tidak berani membeli tiket pesawat untuk berangkat pada pertengahan Oktober ke Duisburg. Maka Yan memesan tiket untuk berangkat pada awal November ke sana.

Namun Yan juga tidak ingin terlambat banyak dalam mengikuti kuliah. Oleh karena itu Yan tidak mau pasrah begitu saja menunggu dihubungi oleh Kedubes Jerman. Jika visanya sampai memakan waktu 8 minggu, ia akan rugi waktu, juga akan rugi finansial sehubungan dengan tiket pesawatnya.

Setelah mempertimbangkan kerugiannya Yan pun berinisiatif "mengejar" Kedubes Jerman. Rasanya lebih dari 1x Yan mendatangi Kedubes Jerman menanyakan visa studinya. Alangkah senangnya Yan, tepat 6 minggu ia sudah mendapatkan visa studinya.

Sementara murid saya Aldo yang juga akan studi di Universitas Duisburg Essen (baca: Bohong!) masih juga belum mendapatkan visa pada saat itu. Dia menyerahkan dokumen pada 11 September, namun sampai Yan berangkat pada 6 November Aldo masih belum mendapatkan visa. Bahkan Aldo sudah datang pada 6 September ke Kedubes Jerman, namun hanya karena kurang 1 lembar fotokopi ia dipulangkan oleh Kedubes Jerman.

Where Is the Visa for My Study? Do It Quickly Please!

A friend, Yan (not the real name), who now studies mechanical engineering at the University of Duisburg Essen told me about his experience in applying student visa in the German Embassy Jakarta.

Yan got the information that visa application will take 6 until 8 weeks. The study for winter semester in Duisburg started in the middle October 2012. Since the German Embassy could not tell Yan, when the visa exactly would be finish, he didn't want to buy the flight ticket for middle October. Then he booked the flight to Duisburg for beginning November.

However Yan didn't want to start the study very late. Therefore he didn't want just to wait until the German Embassy contacts him. If his visa would take until 8 weeks he would lose time and also money due to ticket cancellation.

After considering the lost that could happen, he "chased" the German Embassy. It supposed to be more that 1x that Yan went to the German Embassy asking his student visa. He was so excited as he finally got the visa in 6 weeks.

On the other side my student Aldo, who also wanted to study at the University of Duisburg Essen (see He Lies!) hasn't got his student visa at that time. He submitted the documents on September 11th.. Until Yan left for Germany on November 6th., Aldo still hasn't got the visa. He has even already submitted his documents on September 6th.. However the German Embassy sent him home just because 1 copy of a document was not available.

Preparation for Trip to Germany

For you, Indonesian wives, whose husbands are Germans, maybe your husbands will tell you everything you should prepare for your trip to Germany, You also won't worry about the place where you can or will stay.

But for you, teens, who will study in Germany, it sounds terrible if you still don't know what you should bring, where you can stay in Germany. You also have no family or relatives there, who maybe can accommodate you for temporarily at their home until you find your own home. What should you do?

Find A Home

No other way except you must find a home if you have nobody in Germany. Please contact your university. In many universities in Germany there is usually a department which takes care of foreign students. Its name can be Akademisches Auslandsamt or other similar. This bureau can give you further information how you can find a student apartment, etc.

You can also try to contact the Indonesian embassy in Germany. Maybe they can help you giving useful information.

Thanks to the modern technology you can find so many information in internet. Maybe you can find a website or a weblog of some organizations, which arranges room or house rental in Germany and then you can contact them per email, which is cheaper than if you must contact them via telephone. To contact via email is also faster than if you must send a post mail to Germany. It is very practice. You can choose the best living place for you.

Immigration Documents

Entering other countries needs complete and right immigration documents. You should know the immigration rules of the respective country and you should obey them. Otherwise you will have a problem in entering this country. It may cause you pay more or the worst is: you can be deported. They send you back to your origin country. Imagine the lost you will suffer from.


Prepare your immigration documents accordingly. There are various types of visa. Students, tourists, Indonesian wives, whose husbands are Germans, will need different visa. You should consider also the visa application period: how long it will take from submitting of the documents needed for the visa application until you receive the visa in your hands. Don't let it happen: tomorrow you will fly to Germany, but until today you still don't have the visa. Then you call the German embassy and the clerk over there tells you, you may pick up your visa in the next 2 days!!

You need also to check the expiry date of your passport. If your passport will be expired in one month, maybe the embassy won't issue a visa for you. For further information, please contact the German Embassy.

Academic Documents

As a future student at a university in Germany you must already know what documents you should bring to Germany which are required by your university and which you should submit to your university upon your arrival in Germany. Make a list and prepare everything precisely.

Don't let it happen: you are already in Germany but you forget an important document. Then you ask your family to find the document and send it to Germany. How would it be, if your family can not find the document?

Clothing

In Indonesia your car can use the tires for the whole year. It can happen, that you still don't need to change the tires even they are already 5 years at your car. But in Germany you should change the tires in winter. Otherwise it will be dangerous driving a car on a thick ice with 'summer' tires. If winter is over, you can use back your 'summer' tires.

Similar with that fact, in winter you will need winter clothing. Due to your study you will stay for a long period in Germany. Therefore you should prepare everything accordingly, so that you will survive over the winter.

Many socks and gloves, some thick jackets will be all right. Good shoes from Indonesia should be OK. You see, if you can survive over the winter with those shoes, you don't need to buy additional winter shoes in Germany. If some stuffs are already provided from Indonesia, the other important things related to winter need you can provide in Germany. It would be very expensive, if you should provide all in Germany, however it is also not easy, if you would bring all from Indonesia. You can get overloaded and you should pay the charge due to overloading in the airport.
