Saya sedang memeriksa email yang masuk di kotak surat saya di dan mendapati pemberitahuan dari . Alangkah kagetnya saya, ternyata mantan murid saya Chelsea yang juga dipanggil Ichel memberi pujian untuk saya. Menurut Ichel saya telah membantunya dalam belajar Bahasa Jerman, sejak ia tidak bisa berbicara Bahasa Jerman sampai ia mendaftar les Bahasa Jerman di dan dapat langsung diterima les di tingkat B1. 😊👍

B1 adalah tingkat di atas tingkat dasar yang dimulai dari tingkat A1, lalu A2. Setelah A2 barulah tingkat B1, lalu B2.

Menurut Ichel ia berhasil lulus dalam tes wawancara kerja dengan sebuah perusahaan Jerman berkat bantuan saya juga. 😊 Ichel menambahkan, bahwa saya orang yang fleksibel dan baik. 😊

Suatu kejutan yang manis. Saya jadi terharu. 😢

Sebenarnya keberhasilan Ichel tidak sepenuhnya berkat peran saya, melainkan karena dia juga yang telah bekerja keras. Ichel telah rajin dan tekun belajar. Menghafalkan rumus tata bahasa, menghafalkan banyak kosa kata dan latihan pengucapan dengan sungguh-sungguh.

Terakhir dalam mempersiapkan tes wawancara untuk Ichel justru kelas persiapan tersebut merupakan proses belajar mengajar. Saya malah belajar hal-hal yang spesifik dari dunia kerja sesuai dengan bidang studinya yaitu Teknologi Pangan. Ini sudah menyangkut bahasa khusus.

Ichel mengenal saya dari temannya yang bernama Rachel, yang juga dipanggil Rici. Rici juga mantan murid saya. Selanjutnya Ichel rajin sekali memperkenalkan saya kepada teman-temannya. Fei Fei, temannya di kampus, Irda, adik kelasnya di SMA dan Dion, temannya di SMA. Mereka semua juga telah les Bahasa Jerman dengan saya.

Ada kenangan lucu dengan Ichel. Suatu saat ia sedang semangat belajar Bahasa Jerman dan menghubungi saya agar saya datang pada hari itu juga karena ia ingin les tambahan, padahal ia selalu rajin les sesuai dengan jadwalnya. Biasanya murid minta les tambahan, jika pernah berhalangan les, sehingga harus mengejar ketertinggalan. 😊

Pernah juga Ichel menghubungi saya pada hari lesnya hendak memberitahu bahwa ia akan terlambat karena ada kuliah tambahan. Lalu Ichel berkata, “jangan, ngebut-ngebut ya, Frau*.” 😊 Maksudnya supaya saya jangan cepat sampai di rumahnya sehingga saya harus lama menunggu kedatangannya. Ah, Ichel, memangnya saya pembalap Formula 1, yang terbiasa menyetir dengan kecepatan sangat tinggi. 😉

* Catatan: Dalam Bahasa Jerman, kata sapaan “Frau” dan “Herr” harus diikuti nama marga seseorang. Contoh: Frau Sihombing, Frau Narewska, Herr Narewski, Herr Goethe, dll. Rasanya saya tidak pernah mendengar dalam percakapan dengan orang Jerman seseorang disapa, “bu” atau “pak” seperti “ma’am” atau “sir” dalam Bahasa Inggris. Dalam Bahasa Jerman hanya digunakan kata sapaan “Sie (Anda)”, tidak perlu ditambahkan lagi kata sapaan “bu” atau “pak”. Tetapi murid-murid les Bahasa Jerman di Jakarta menggunakan kata sapaan “Frau” dan “Herr” seperti penggunaan kata sapaan ”bu” dan “pak” dalam Bahasa Indonesia. 😊 Saya selalu mengingatkan murid-murid saya, agar menggunakan kata sapaan “Frau” dan “Herr” sesuai kebiasaan di Jerman jika mereka kemudian sudah di Jerman.

Saya bersyukur kepada Tuhan karena saya dapat menjadi berkat untuk murid-murid saya. Saya sungguh berbahagia atas keberhasilan mereka. Saya juga sangat prihatin atas murid-murid yang belum meraih keberhasilan, sekalipun telah belajar dengan tekun. Mungkin mereka masih memerlukan waktu yang lebih lama untuk belajar Bahasa Jerman.

Terima kasih, Ichel. Selamat atas perolehan pekerjaan di perusahaan Jerman yang kamu inginkan. Saya bangga padamu. 👍

I was checking incoming emails in my mailbox in   and found a notification from . How surprised I was, my former pupil Chelsea, whose nickname is Ichel, just paid me a compliment. According to Ichel I have helped her in learning German. She has made it. At the beginning she could not speak German. But, then she could take German course later at and was directly classified in B1 level. 😊👍

B1 is a level over the ground level, which starts from A1, then A2. After A2 is B1 level, then B2.

According to Ichel she passed the interview with a German company due to my role. 😊 Ichel wrote further that I am flexible and nice. 😊

What a nice surprise. I am touched. 😢

Actually Ichel’s success is not completely due to my role. It was because she also has worked hard. Ichel has learned diligently and keen. She memorised the grammar formula, also vocabulary and practiced the pronunciation seriously.

At the last time I have prepared for Ichel’s interview test. The preparation class just became a learn – teach process. I even learned specific things from Ichel’s working field, which has to do with her field of study “Food Technology”. It is now about technical terminology.

Ichel knew me from her friend Rachel, whose nick name is Rici. Rici was also my former pupil. Furthermore Ichel liked introducing me to her friends. Fei Fei, her friend at the campus. Irda, her junior at the senior high school. Dion, her friend at the senior high school. They have also done the German course with me.

There are sweet memories with Ichel. Someday she was just excited to learn German and asked me to come to her on that day. She wanted to do an additional course. However, she always did the course according to her schedule before. Usually pupils ask an additional course, because the scheduled course is just cancelled and they need to catch up.😊

One day, where Ichel had course schedule, she informed me that she will be late. She had an additional course at the campus. Then she said, “don’t speed up the drive, Frau*.” 😊 She meant so that I won’t be early at her house, therefore I must wait long for her. Och, Ichel, I am not a Formula 1 racer, who gets used to driving in very high speedy. 😉

* Notice: No matter duzen (to call “du”) or siezen (to call “Sie” ) we have further salutations after “du” or “Sie” like “ma’am” and “sir” in English. There are still other salutations. I think, such salutations are not available in German. Or maybe they are available, but are just used very rarely. I personally never heard, that such salutations are used in the daily German conversation. Since such salutations are not available, therefore the pupils in Jakarta treat the salutations “Frau”and “Herr” like in Indonesian language. 😊 I remind my pupils, that they should use the salutations “Frau” and “Herr” just like they should be in German, if they are already in Germany. The salutations “Frau” and “Herr” in German must be followed by the family names. e.g.: Frau Sihombing, Frau Narewska, Herr Narewski, Herr Goethe, etc.. My pupils know that already.

I thank God because I can be a blessing for my pupils. I am really happy for their success. I am also really sorry for my pupils, who haven’t succeeded yet, although they have learned diligently. Maybe they just need longer time to learn German.

Das ist immer interessant, den Originaltext eines übersetzten Liedes zu finden, weil ich sie dann vergleichen kann. Natürlich respektiere ich die Übersetzerin / den Übersetzer, die / der mit Mühe und Not versucht hat, das beste Ergebnis der Übersetzung zu bekommen. Ich möchte die Übersetzung nicht kritisieren oder beurteilen. Besonders das ist ein Lied. Das ist wirklich nicht einfach, ein Lied zu übersetzen. Mit der Übersetzung sind Sie verantwortlich, die Botschaft von der Autorin oder dem Autor  an die Leserinnen und Leser zu vermitteln. Das sind Leserinnen und Leser , deren Sprache anders als die Sprache der Autorin / des Autors ist. Übersetzung ist die Brücke, die eine Autorin oder ein Autor mit solchen Leserinnen und Lesern verbindet. Jedoch, im Übersetzen eines Liedes haben Sie zusätzliche Aufgaben wie Sie sollen an die Melodie und den Reim denken.

Nicht nur grammatikalische Probleme, die Sprachkenntnisse zum Lösen brauchen, beim Übersetzen würde es einige anderen Probleme geben, weil es einige Faktoren gibt, die beeinflüssen. Zum Beispiel: eine Übersetzerin / ein Übersetzer braucht Dinge zu wissen, die mit der Autorin oder dem Autor zu tun haben, so dass sie / er die Autorin / den Autor versteht. Die Dinge sind zum Beispiel der Hintergrund, die politische Situation im Land wo die Autorin / der Autor lebt oder einmal gelebt hat, die Kultur, das soziale Leben, usw.. Deswegen das ist nicht richtig, wenn Sie einen Text aus einer Übersetzung übersetzen. In diesem Fall ist das Lied auf Deutsch. Vielleicht gibt es schon die englische Übersetzung und Sie wollen das Lied ins Indonesische übersetzen, dann sollten Sie das aus Deutsch, nicht aus der englischen Übersetzung übersetzen.

Hier möchte ich das deutsche Kirchenlied “O Selig Haus” freilegen. Dieses Lied bleibt gerade als Ohrwurm bei mir. 😊 Ich möchte nur den Unterschied zwischen dem Originaltext und der Übersetzung finden.

O selig Haus, wo man dich aufgenommen,

du wahrer Seelenfreund, Herr Jesus Christ;  

wo unter allen Gästen, die da kommen,

du der gefeiertste und liebste bist;

 

wo aller Herzen dir entgegenschlagen  

und aller Augen freudig auf dich sehn;

wo aller Lippen dein Gebot erfragen  

und alle deines Winks gewärtig stehn!

Ich habe den Text vom württembergischen Gesangbuch “Evangelisches Kirchengesangbuch” (Stuttgart: Verlag des Evangelischen Gesangbuchs, 1986) bekommen. Das Lied ist unter der Nummer 449.

Hinter dem württembergischen Gesangbuch gab es eine sehr schöne Geschichte. 😊

Masalah Terjemahan (3): Lagu “O Selig Haus” dari Kidung Jemaat No. 318

Selalu menarik menemukan teks asli dari suatu lagu terjemahan, sebab saya dapat membandingkannya kemudian. Tentu saja saya menghargai si penerjemah yang telah susah payah dalam mencapai hasil terjemahan terbaik. Jadi saya tidak ingin mengkritik atau menilai terjemahannya. Apalagi ini sebuah lagu. Sungguh tidak mudah menerjemahkan sebuah lagu. Dengan menerjemahkan Anda bertanggung-jawab menyampaikan pesan dari si pengarang kepada pembaca yang memiliki bahasa yang berbeda dari si pengarang. Terjemahan adalah jembatan yang menghubungkan seorang pengarang dengan pembaca yang demikian. Tapi dalam menerjemahkan sebuah lagu Anda memiliki pekerjaan tambahan seperti Anda harus memikirkan melodi dan rima / sajak.

Tidak hanya masalah tata bahasa yang memerlukan ketrampilan bahasa dalam penyelesaiannya, dalam penerjemahan akan ada masalah lainnya, sebab ada beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi. Sebagai contoh seorang penerjemah perlu mengetahui hal-hal yang berhubungan dengan si pengarang dalam rangka mengerti cara berpikirnya, misalnya latar belakangnya, situasi politik di negara tempat dia hidup atau pernah hidup, kebudayaan, kehidupan sosial, dll. Oleh karena itu tidak benar jika Anda menerjemahkan sebuah teks dari sebuah terjemahan. Sebagai contoh di sini lagu ini berbahasa Jerman, mungkin terjemahan Bahasa Inggrisnya ada, dan Anda ingin menerjemahkan lagu ini ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia, maka haruslah Anda menerjemahkannya dari Bahasa Jerman, bukan dari terjemahan Bahasa Inggris.

Pada kesempatan ini saya ingin mengeksposisi lagu gereja Jerman yang berjudul “O Selig Haus”. Belakangan lagu ini sering terngiang-ngiang di telinga saya. 😊 Saya hanya ingin menemukan perbedaan antara teks asli dan terjemahannya.

Saya mendapatkan teksnya dari buku lagu Gereja Negara Bagian Württemberg “Evangelisches Kirchengesangbuch” (Stuttgart: Verlag des Evangelischen Gesangbuchs, 1986). Lagu ini ada di nomor 449.

Di balik buku lagu gereja Negara Bagian Württemberg ini ada kisah yang sangat menyenangkan. 😊

Translation Problems (3): The Song “O Selig Haus” from Kidung Jemaat No. 318

It is always interesting to find the original text of a translated song, because then I can compare them. Of course I have respect to the translator, who has tried diligently to get the best result of the translation. I don’t want to criticize or judge the translation. Especially this is a song. It is really not easy to translate a song. By doing translation you are responsible to convey the message from the author to the readers, whose language is different from the author’s language. Translation is the bridge which connects an author to those readers. However, in translating a song you have additional works like you should think of the melody and the rhyme.

Not only grammatical problems which need language skills to solve them in translating there will be some other problems, because there are some factors which influence. For example a translator needs to know things related to the author in regard to understand her / him such as her or his background, the political situation of the country where the author lives or has lived, the culture , the social life, etc.. Therefore it is not correct if you translate a text from a translation. In this case this song is in German, maybe the English translation is available, and you want to translate the song into Indonesian language, so you should translate it from German, not from the English translation.

Here I want to expose the German Church song “O Selig Haus”. This song is currently ringing in my ears. 😊 I just want to find the difference between the original text and the translation.

I got the text from the ecclesiastical hymnbook of state church of Württemberg “Evangelisches Kirchengesangbuch” (Stuttgart: Verlag des Evangelischen Gesangbuchs, 1986). This song is on number 449.

Behind the hymnbook of state church of Württemberg there was a very nice story. 😊
