Again, problem with prepositions, which my student Rebecca hates. (see "ueber", "an...vorbei". Which Preposition Should I Choose?) Unfortunately there is no information in the course book A1 studio d, Unit 8, Chapter 3, for example: when you should use "durch", when you should take "ueber". There are only sentences as examples which show that prepositions "durch" and "ueber" are connected to accusative.
The prepositions "durch" and "ueber" can have a similar meaning in Indonesian. It is difficult if an Indonesian German learning student must decide which preposition she or he should choose.
Here the sentences:
Die Touristen laufen durch den Park.
Die Touristen laufen durch das Stadttor.
Die Touristen laufen durch die Fussgaengerzone.
Die Touristen gehen ueber den Marktplatz.
Die Touristen gehen ueber das Messegelaende.
Die Touristen gehen ueber die Schlossbruecke.
In Indonesian both prepositions can be translated just into the word "lewat". So, if the prepositions had deleted from the above sentences and then an Indonesian German learning student like Rebecca should fill in the prepositions, she would make a mistake.
I have asked my friends in Germany (I consider all friends), whether the prepositions "durch" and "ueber" in the above mentioned sentences can be exchanged.
Therefore the sentences will be:
A. "ueber" instead of "durch"
Die Touristen laufen ueber den Park.
Die Touristen laufen ueber das Stadttor.
Die Touristen laufen ueber die Fussgaengerzone.
B. "durch" instead of "ueber"
Die Touristen gehen durch den Marktplatz.
Die Touristen gehen durch das Messegelaende.
Die Touristen gehen durch die Schlossbruecke.
According to Ulli in Hamburg the prepositions cannot be exchanged. However, Mrs Engelhardt in Karlsruhe has the opinion that "durch das Messegelaende" is still acceptable. Preposition "durch" means that there are bordered rooms / borders in which someone can go through. "Gelaende" (area) is big, but it is bordered by different buildings or selling stands. Prepositions in other sentences cannot be exchanged.
Based on Mrs Engelhardt's information a conclusion can be drawn: in this case an Indonesian German learning student must also understand the concept, which hides in a German word. Not only the meaning of the prepositions. Sometimes it is not enough if a meaning of a word is just to find in the German - Indonesian dictionary. It would be better, if you check also in a German - German dictionary. You can find words' definition there.
What does an Indonesian student understand from the word "Stadttor (city gate)?" Is there any Stadttor in Indonesia? If yes, do German Stadttor and Indonesian city gate have the same concept?
What does an Indonesian student understand from the word "Fussgaengerzone (cars free zone)"? Is there any Fussgaengerzone in Indonesia? If yes, do German Fussgaengerzone and Indonesian cars free zone have the same concept?
It is right what Ulli in Hamburg has written:

In the language there are thin differences, which cannot be recognized or differentiated by them whose mother tongue German is.Neither can an Indonesian student. So, it is just not easy for Indonesian student. But, don't worry. Keep learning German and be brave to speak German. Don't think of the grammar while you are speaking.
